Photo Safaris - Kenya 2018

Bill Gozansky in conjunction with Eco-resorts, an East African eco-adventure tour operator, will be leading photographic safaris to Kenya in 2018. In a private or small group setting, learn field techniques of professional wildlife photography and capture captivating images of African wildlife as you travel to one of the most remarkable natural areas on Earth.

Designed to suit photographers of all levels, the photo safaris will enhance your photographic skills and introduce you to professional field techniques focused on capturing the incredible variety of African wildlife, endless landscapes and the stunning indigenous people of Kenya. Your African photo safari actually begins well before you board your plane to Africa. Bill will personally email you to discuss your photographic goals, equipment resources and knowledge of photography to help ensure that your photo safari is optimally structured to target the subject matter that interests you the most.

Game drives and game walks are concentrated in the cooler mornings and evenings when the light is optimal for photography. Mid-day and early afternoons will be spent in discussions of photographic techniques, as well as time for cleaning equipment, backing up images and catching up on the odd bit of sleep! It is our hope that the photo safaris will not only enable you to capture stunning images of Africa, but will also provide you with an incredible experience of a lifetime.

The dates and itineraries of the Kenyan photo safaris are flexible and can be tailored to your individual desires. To make a reservation or for more information regarding these photo safaris, please contact Melinda Rees at or Bill Gozansky at

The Samburu area is part of an ancient lava plain covered with red dirt, thorn scrub, broken volcanic rock, dried riverbeds, steep hills and rocky outcroppings. Unusual for this arid area of Northern Kenya, Samburu has a permanent water supply, the Ewaso Ngiro or “Brown River”. This permanent water flow provides an oasis for the many elephant, hippo, and crocodile that abound in this area. The region is also home to the rare Grevvy Zebra, Somali Ostrich with its distinctive blue legs, the shy Beisa Oryx and the largest African antelope, the Eland.

Day 5

Another full day in the Samburu Reserve with all meals and overnight at the Serena Lodge.

Day 6

Breakfast at the lodge. Morning drive via Thompson’s Falls to Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving by lunchtime. Lunch at the Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge. Afternoon game drive around the lake. Dinner and overnight at Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge.

The Rift Valley is one of the wonders of the world, stretching from the Middle East, down through Africa, reaching as far as Mozambique. The staggering view, as you approach from Nairobi, Kenya is quite unbelievable. The ground suddenly disappears from under you to show the huge expanse of the great rift, stretching for thousands of miles in either direction. Whilst this stunning introduction to the Rift Valley is amazing in itself, actually descending and exploring the lakes area of Kenya’s Rift Valley is a “not to be missed” opportunity.

Lake Nakuru is the world famous park created to protect its stunning flocks of Lesser Flamingo, which literally turn the lakeshore pink in color. Notable game within the lake area are hippo and the diverse bird life. Both Black and White Rhino reside in the sanctuary as well as Rothschild Giraffe, Buffalo, Impala, Eland, Warthog, Mountain Reedbuck, Klipspringers and Black and White Colobus Monkeys are all plentiful. This park is world-renowned as a beacon for ornithologists, scientists and wildlife filmmakers.

Day 7

A full day with optional picnic lunch exploring this fabulous small park. All meals and overnight at the Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge.

Day 8

Breakfast at the lodge. Morning drive through the Great Rift Valley to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Lunch at JK Mara Camp. Afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at JK Mara Camp.

Day 9

A second full day based at the JK Mara Camp near the Talek River. All meals and overnight at the camp. Located to the south of Nairobi, and bordering Tanzania, the Masai Mara forms part of the huge Serengeti eco-system. The Mara spreads over 1510 square kilometers of rolling plains, sudden rocky outcrops, and green winding rivers.

Not only is the Mara blessed with this stunning landscape, but also its animal diversity is one of the greatest in Africa. Surrounded by the grazing lands of the Maasai people, the Mara is a sanctuary for all of the “Big Five” animals: lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard. The sweet grasses and abundant water ensure a full compliment of plains game such as the Impala and Thompsons Gazelle. The deep river pools provide homes for hippo and crocodiles.

Each year, generally in August/September, the Mara is host to the spectacular Wildebeest migration, one of the natural wonders of the world! Literally millions of these awkwardly shaped ungulates move across the open plains in an endless stream stretching from horizon to horizon. The movement of this vast herd is fascinating in itself, but there is seldom a day that goes by without the added bonus of watching the predators that follow the herd. Lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dogs rely on the herd for food. Spotting one of these magnificent predators is more or less guaranteed at this time.

All meals and overnight at the JK Mara Camp.

Day 10

Another full day based at the JK Mara Camp near the Talek River. All meals and overnight at the camp.

Day 11

Move over to the Mara Serena Lodge today, on the other side of the Masai Mara, near the Mara River. Game drives and all meals and overnight at the Mara Lodge.

Day 12

A full day in this new area, with all meals and overnight at the Mara Serena Lodge.
